Landing in Taif: what happens next
Taif International Airport (TIF) is the natural gateway for the mountain resorts, and for pilgrims who start in Taif before heading down to Makkah for Umrah. The airport sits away from the busy city centre, and travellers fan out in different directions from it: hotels in central Taif, the heights of Al Hada and Al Shafa, or straight on to the Haram. Whichever it is, having a driver ready saves you a long wait and a roadside negotiation.
Book with Mishwar Al Haramain and a private car with driver is waiting in the arrivals hall, holding a sign with your name. We track your flight, you get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, and the fare is fixed for the whole car and paid on arrival.
Three common destinations from TIF
1. Hotels in Taif
The most frequent request. Just send the hotel name or a map pin. If Taif itself is your base, the details are on the Taif Airport to Taif route page.
2. Al Hada and Al Shafa
Resorts and chalets on the heights mean a climb on winding mountain roads, so the drive is longer than a run into the centre. Families with children and plenty of luggage will appreciate the extra room of a family vehicle on the bends.
3. Straight to Makkah
Many Umrah travellers fly into Taif and drive down. Taif to Makkah is about 90 km via the Al Hada road. Important: the route passes the miqat of Qarn al-Manazil (at As-Sayl al-Kabir, with Wadi Muhrim on the Al Hada road), so if you intend Umrah, tell the driver in advance and he will stop there for ihram. More on this journey on the Taif to Makkah taxi page.

Frequently asked
Do I pass a miqat if I drive from Taif Airport to Makkah?
Yes. The route passes the miqat of Qarn al-Manazil at As-Sayl al-Kabir, with Wadi Muhrim on the Al Hada road. If you intend Umrah, tell the driver in advance and he will stop there for ihram. Taif to Makkah is about 90 km via Al Hada.
Is the drive to Al Hada or Al Shafa longer than into central Taif?
Yes. The resorts and chalets are up on the heights, reached by winding mountain roads, so allow more time than for a run into the centre. With children and plenty of luggage, a family vehicle is more comfortable on the bends.
