The question we hear most in Hajj season is: "Can you drive us to Mina or Arafat?" The honest answer explains how the whole season works. A pilgrim's journey falls into three stages, each with its own rules, and a private car is genuinely useful in only two of them.
Stage one: arriving and getting to your accommodation
Most international pilgrims land at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah; others arrive at Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah. This is where advance planning pays off: a driver waiting in arrivals with your name on a sign, your flight tracked, and 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. Pickup details are on the Jeddah airport taxi page.
Before you book, check with your Hajj provider. Many packages include the airport transfer. If yours does not, or you would rather have a car just for your family, that is where we come in.
Stage two: the days of the rites
From the Day of Tarwiyah to the end of the days of Tashreeq, movement between Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah runs on the approved transport of licensed Hajj providers, and private cars are restricted from the holy sites. For that reason we do not offer rides within the holy sites on those days, and we advise against relying on anyone who does. Follow your provider's instructions and keep an eye on official guidance through Nusuk and the relevant authorities, as arrangements can change from year to year.
Stage three: after the rites and going home
This is where a private car comes back into its own: Makkah to Madinah for your visit, back to Jeddah airport, or Madinah straight to the airport. Huge numbers of pilgrims leave within a few days of each other, so booking early is a necessity, not a luxury.

How long do the drives take in season?
On an ordinary day, Jeddah airport to Makkah is about 100 km and takes roughly 60 to 75 minutes; Makkah to Madinah is about 450 km and takes around four and a half to five hours. In Hajj season add a generous margin for checkpoints and traffic, and never schedule a flight tight against your hotel departure time.
Luggage and Zamzam
Pilgrims go home heavier than they arrived. Tell us the exact number of people and large suitcases when you book:
- A sedan suits two or three people with moderate luggage.
- A family SUV or van is better for families and lots of bags.
- For a larger group, two cars may make more sense; we will suggest the best option once we have the details.
Check your airline's rules on carrying Zamzam water before you travel.
The central area around the Haram
At busy times traffic around Masjid al-Haram is controlled, and you may be dropped at the nearest permitted point and walk a short way to your hotel. Give the driver your exact hotel name so he can pick the closest possible spot.
Questions pilgrims ask
Can you take me between Mina and Arafat?
No. During the Hajj days, travel within the holy sites is by your provider's approved transport.
When should I book my departure ride?
As soon as you know your flight time. Demand surges after Hajj, and booking early secures the right vehicle.
Do I pay in advance?
There is no prepayment for normal bookings; you pay the fixed fare on arrival.
Can I go Makkah to Madinah and on to the airport in one day?
It is possible but exhausting, especially after the rites. We suggest at least one night in Madinah. See also our Makkah to Madinah taxi page.
