After a long flight, the last thing anyone wants is a fare negotiation at the arrivals door. The honest answer to "how much will the taxi cost?" depends less on distance than on how you choose to pay. At King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah you will usually find three ways out: the metered airport taxi, ride-hailing apps, and a car pre-booked at a fixed price. Each has its own logic, and this guide explains it without the sales pitch.
Option one: the metered airport taxi
Licensed taxis operate at the airport and charge by meter under the approved tariff, which typically combines a starting amount with charges for distance and time. Their advantage is obvious: they are there, and you do not need to book. Things to keep in mind:
- You only learn the final amount when you arrive, and traffic or waiting time affects it.
- You do not choose the vehicle size, so a large family's bags may not fit.
- Make sure the meter is running from the start, and ask for a receipt.
Official tariffs can change. If you need an exact figure, check with the transport regulator or the information signs at the airport.
Option two: ride-hailing apps
Well-known ride apps operate in Jeddah and show a price estimate before you request a car. They work well if you have a local SIM or data the moment you land and know how to reach the designated pickup zone. At busy times, though, dynamic pricing can push fares up, and finding a vehicle big enough for a family can take a while.
Option three: a pre-booked fixed fare
Here the fare is agreed before you board your flight. It is per car, not per passenger, and it does not change with traffic or flight delays. With Mishwar Al Haramain it works like this:
- Your driver waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name.
- We track your flight, so if it is late, your pickup moves with it.
- You get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing for passport control and baggage.
- You pay on arrival; normal bookings need no prepayment.

When each option makes sense
- Solo traveller, daytime, hotel nearby in Jeddah: any of the three will do.
- Family with lots of luggage heading to Makkah: a fixed fare in a family vehicle saves the searching and haggling.
- Landing after midnight: a driver already waiting with your name takes a lot of strain out of arrival.
- Arriving in ihram for Umrah: you will want to go straight to your hotel or the Haram without delay, and knowing the fare up front is one less thing to think about.
Common mistakes that cost travellers more
- Accepting an offer from someone who approaches you in the hall. Avoid unlicensed cars and anyone offering a "ride" without clear identification. Stick to a licensed taxi, an app, or the driver booked in your name.
- Being vague about the destination. "Makkah" is not an address. Give the exact hotel name — a hotel in the central area and one in an outer district can be a very different drive.
- Booking a car that is too small. Ending up needing two cars doubles the cost. Count the bags before you count the people.
- Forgetting the return trip. Arrange your ride back to the airport early. Makkah to Jeddah Airport starts from 190 SAR in a sedan, and having it settled saves a scramble on departure day.
A few arrival tips
Jeddah's airport handles very large numbers of pilgrims in peak seasons, and the arrivals halls can be crowded. Keep your phone charged so the driver can reach you, note which terminal your airline uses, and keep your hotel name and address saved somewhere easy to show. If you have wheelchair assistance booked with your airline, tell us — it often changes how long it takes you to reach the arrivals hall.
What to send us to book a pickup
- Flight number and arrival date.
- Hotel name or address at your destination.
- Number of passengers and large suitcases.
- The name to put on the sign.
Send them to WhatsApp +966582918075 or use the booking page; the driver's details reach you before pickup. More about the service on the Jeddah Airport taxi page, and other routes in the taxi fares guide.
