Jeddah Airport Terminals Explained: Where You Land and How to Leave

Plenty of travellers find out on arrival that "Jeddah airport" is really several terminals spread apart, and that the one they fly out of may not be the one they landed at. This guide is organised around the questions you actually have: which terminal will I arrive at, what happens after passport control, and how do I find my driver?

The three terminals at a glance

TerminalUsually used byWhat to know
Terminal 1 (the new terminal)Saudia and many domestic and international airlinesThe largest and newest, with the Haramain train station inside
North TerminalSome foreign airlinesA separate building; you need a vehicle to get to or from Terminal 1
Hajj TerminalHajj flights and some Umrah flights in certain seasonsSeasonal, with procedures designed for pilgrims

Airline allocations can change, so trust your ticket or the airline's app rather than what a previous traveller told you.

Why the terminal matters before you land

Because the meeting point is different for each terminal. If you send us your flight number we can work out the terminal from the flight data, but tell us if it changes at the last minute. It matters even more on departure: you cannot walk between Terminal 1 and the North Terminal, so you don't want to discover you're at the wrong one when you arrive at the kerb.

After landing: the usual sequence

  1. Immigration: have your visa and passport ready. First-time visitors may be fingerprinted.
  2. Baggage reclaim: check the screens for your belt. In the Umrah seasons this step can take longer than immigration.
  3. Customs: use the right channel, and check the list of restricted items on official sources before you travel.
  4. SIM card and exchange: outside the secure area you'll normally find telecom and currency counters. Having data on your phone makes it easy to reach your driver.
  5. Meeting your driver: in the arrivals hall, where your Mishwar Al Haramain driver holds a sign with your name.

Because these steps take time, you get 60 minutes of free waiting from the moment you land, and the driver tracks your flight, so a delay is not a problem.

Arriving for Umrah

If you've come for Umrah, you will have entered ihram on the plane at or before the miqat; the airport itself is not a miqat for someone who has already passed it intending Umrah. That's why we suggest changing into ihram before take-off. The airport has prayer rooms and washrooms you can use before setting off for Makkah. Train or car?

The Haramain station inside Terminal 1 is a good option for light travellers staying near the arrival station. Bear in mind the train takes you to a station, not to your hotel, and runs to a timetable. Families with lots of luggage and children, or anyone landing late at night, usually find a private car from terminal door to hotel door simpler.
