Many pilgrims finish their first Umrah and want to perform another, for themselves, for a late parent, or for a relative who can't travel. At that point the question is no longer "should I?" but "how do I arrange it?" This article focuses on the practical side: where to enter ihram, when to go and how to get there. On the rulings, we give the general picture and point you to scholars for the details.
The rulings in brief
- Most scholars permit repeating Umrah during a single trip, while some hold that extra tawaf is preferable to repeatedly going out for new Umrahs. Ask someone whose knowledge you trust if you're unsure.
- Don't begin a new Umrah until you've left ihram from the previous one by shaving or trimming.
- Performing Umrah on behalf of someone else is generally understood by scholars to require that you've already done your own.
Where to enter ihram if you're in Makkah
Someone inside the Haram boundary in Makkah who wants to perform Umrah does not enter ihram at their hotel. They go out to the "hill", the area beyond the Haram boundary, enter ihram there and come back. The best-known places:
| Place | Approx. distance from the Haram | Why people choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Masjid Aisha at Taneem | About 7–8 km | Closest and easiest, with facilities for pilgrims |
| Masjid Ji'ranah | Further than Taneem | Often quieter; the Prophet ﷺ entered ihram here |
If you're in Madinah and coming down to Makkah for a new Umrah, your miqat is Dhul Hulayfah; from Taif it's Qarn al-Manazil.
The ride, step by step
- At the hotel: bathe and put on ihram clothing if you like, without making the intention yet.
- To the miqat: the driver collects you at the hotel door and takes you to Taneem or Ji'ranah.
- At the mosque: make your intention for Umrah, begin the talbiyah, and pray if you wish.
- Back again: the driver returns you to the nearest permitted point to the Haram, or to your hotel if you'd like to rest first.
Published one-way fares from Makkah (SAR, per car):
| Destination | Sedan | Family | VIP |
|---|---|---|---|

Tell us on WhatsApp if you want the driver to wait and bring you back, and we'll confirm the return and its fare. You pay on arrival, with no prepayment for normal bookings. More on our Makkah taxi page.
Permits
Umrah requires a permit through the Nusuk app, and repeat permits follow rules that can change with the season and crowd levels, especially in Ramadan. Check the app before arranging the ride, book the slot that suits you, then send us the time.
When to go
- Avoid leaving just before the main prayers, or your return will coincide with worshippers leaving.
- Late night and mid-morning are often lighter on the roads and in the mataf.
- In summer, do tawaf and sa'i at night where you can.
Don't wear yourself out
One Umrah can mean hours on your feet. If you're older or travelling with children, leave a rest day between Umrahs, drink plenty of water, and keep comfortable footwear for after you leave ihram. Wheelchairs and carts are available at the Grand Mosque for those who need them.
A second Umrah after visiting Madinah
Some pilgrims make their second Umrah on the way back from Madinah, entering ihram at Dhul Hulayfah. The Madinah to Makkah fare is 400 SAR sedan, 600 family, 800 VIP. See our Madinah to Makkah taxi page, and the rest of our prices in the fare guide.
Questions we hear often
Do I shave after every Umrah?
Every Umrah ends with shaving or trimming. If another Umrah is coming soon, trimming the first time leaves enough hair to shave the second.
Can I enter ihram at my hotel for a second Umrah?
No. Someone inside the Haram goes out to the hill, such as Taneem, and enters ihram there.
How long is the ride to Taneem?
Usually about a quarter of an hour from the central area, longer in heavy traffic.
Can I book the ride in the middle of the night?
Yes, we operate around the clock.
