A Drive From the Mountains to the Sea
Few roads in the Kingdom change scenery as dramatically as the one from Abha to Jazan. You start in the Asir highlands, where the air is cool and fog is common, then the road descends through mountain bends to the Tihamah plain and on to Jazan on the Red Sea coast, where it is warmer and far more humid. The distance is about 200 km and the drive takes around three hours, longer with weather or stops.
Mishwar Al Haramain arranges the trip in a private car with a driver who collects you from your hotel or home in Abha and drops you at any address you give in Jazan.
Why Not Drive Yourself?
- The descent: the mountain section needs constant concentration, especially in fog or rain, and a driver used to mountain roads makes it easier.
- Comfort: you can watch the landscape and look after the children instead of the road.
- No return logistics: there is no rental car to take back to Abha afterwards.
Getting Ready
The weather at each end of the trip is very different. Leave Abha early in the morning and you may want a light jacket that comes off well before Jazan. Keep water and lighter clothes in your hand luggage. If anyone gets carsick on winding roads, tell the driver so they take it gently and stop when needed.

Once You Reach Jazan

Travelling With Family and Children
On a family trip, small details make a difference. Tell us the children's ages when booking and bring water and snacks for the road, because stopping on the mountain descent is not possible everywhere. A family vehicle gives children more room and fits a pushchair alongside the suitcases. If an elderly relative is travelling, let us know so the pickup happens as close to the door as possible.
