Flew into Madinah and want to start with Umrah
Some pilgrims fly into Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah and head straight to Makkah for Umrah, either because they have visited Madinah before or because they plan to visit at the end of their trip. If that is your plan, your road journey starts in the arrivals hall and ends at your Makkah hotel, with the long Hijrah highway in between, about 450 km. At Mishwar Al Haramain we arrange the whole trip with one car and one driver.
The ihram stop on your way
The miqat for anyone leaving Madinah for Makkah to perform Umrah is Dhul Hulayfah, known today as Abyar Ali, on the edge of the city in the direction of Makkah. The driver passes it at the start of the journey, so you can stop there to wash, change into ihram, pray and make your intention. Keep your ihram clothes in your hand luggage rather than the big suitcases, and tell us in advance that you want to stop at the miqat so we can allow for the time.
How the airport pickup works
- Send your flight number, arrival time and Makkah hotel name on WhatsApp.
- We track the flight, and the driver adjusts if it is late.
- The driver waits in arrivals with a sign bearing your name, and you get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing.
- Once the bags are loaded, you head to the miqat and then on to Makkah.
Duration and breaks
Driving from Madinah to Makkah takes roughly 4.5 to 5 hours, plus the time at the miqat and any prayer breaks you need. If you arrive tired after a long flight, a family vehicle gives you more room to rest.

Can I enter ihram at the airport?
You can get ready and change into ihram clothes before leaving the airport if you like, while the intention is made at the miqat or before passing it. If you are unsure, ask someone knowledgeable you trust.
Will the driver take me straight to the Haram?
The driver takes you to your hotel or the nearest point cars may reach, so you can drop your bags and then walk to the Grand Mosque.
