The road and Makkah
The usual road between Taif and Jeddah passes through the Makkah area. If you want to perform Umrah on the way, remember that travellers from Taif enter ihram at their miqat (Qarn al-Manazil at Al Sail Al Kabir, or Wadi Muhrim on the Al Hada road, which lies in line with it), and the driver can pause there for you. Tips for the drive down from Taif
- Temperature change: you are moving from mild mountain air to coastal heat and humidity, so keep lighter clothes to hand.
- Shopping: Taif roses and fruit need a safe spot in the car, so mention them when booking.
- Children: some children find the mountain bends tiring, so plan for that and tell the driver if you need a pause.
- Airport runs: leave on time, as traffic on the approaches to Jeddah can build in the evening.
For commuters between Taif and Jeddah
