Why some pilgrims fly out of Taif
Not everyone leaves from Jeddah after Umrah. Some domestic and international flights depart from Taif International Airport, sometimes at better times or prices, and some visitors add a few days in the Taif resorts before heading home. In that case the drive is uphill from Makkah to Taif, about 90 km to the city via the Al Hada road, plus a further stretch out to the airport.
With Mishwar Al Haramain the driver collects you from your Makkah hotel and heads straight to the departures hall at Taif airport. The fare is fixed for the whole car and paid on arrival.
The Al Hada road: what to expect
- Mountain climb: the road rises through a series of hairpins. The views are lovely, but it calls for careful driving, so do not cut your timing fine.
- Weather change: it gets cooler the higher you go, and fog can appear on some days.
- Car sickness: if anyone is sensitive to bends, seat them in front and let the driver know.
No ihram is needed in this direction, since you are leaving Makkah rather than arriving.
