Why Some Travellers Drive to Riyadh Instead of Flying
Jeddah and Riyadh are roughly 950 km apart, and flying is the obvious quick option. Even so, some travellers prefer the road for practical reasons: a large family whose tickets would cost more than one car, more luggage than the baggage allowance will take, elderly relatives who find airports tiring, or simply wanting to stop along the way. What the Road Is Like
The drive usually takes nine to ten hours, not counting long stops. The driver leaves Jeddah heading east, then follows the highway across the central plateaus to Riyadh's western side. It is a long road but a straightforward one, with service stations along the way.
