From the Capital to the Khobar Corniche
Khobar mixes business and leisure: company offices and residential compounds in neighbouring Dhahran, a long corniche that fills up at weekends, and the causeway travellers use to cross to Bahrain. So people head there from Riyadh for all sorts of reasons, and many choose a private car over flying. The road takes about four to four and a half hours, and once you count getting to the airport and waiting there, flying often saves surprisingly little time.

The Road Between the Two Cities
The driver leaves Riyadh heading east on the highway to the Eastern Province, a wide road with service stations along it. Most people stop around halfway for prayer or coffee. Near Dammam the road branches off towards Khobar, and it can get congested at peak times and on Thursday evenings.
