Family SUV: Built Around Travelling With Children and Elderly Parents
Travelling for Umrah as a family is a different experience from travelling alone. There are toddlers who fall asleep at the wrong moment, grandparents who need a hand stepping down, a stroller that has to fit somewhere, and a mountain of luggage that seems to double at every stop. The family SUV class at Mishwar Al Haramain is set up for exactly that reality: a spacious, air-conditioned SUV with a driver used to carrying families, and a booking process that asks the right questions up front.
The aim is simple: keep the whole family together in one car, with one fixed fare for the vehicle, from the airport to the hotel, between the Holy Cities, and on your ziyarat days.
Who This Class Is For
- Parents travelling with babies, toddlers or school-age children.
- Families bringing grandparents who need extra time and help getting in and out.
- Households of four to six people who do not want to split across two cars.
- Anyone carrying a stroller, a folding wheelchair or a walking frame alongside suitcases.
If your family is larger than the seat count shown on this page, the van classes are the next step up.
Planning a Family Trip: What to Tell Us
A few details sent on WhatsApp make an enormous difference on the day:
- Ages of the children. Every child needs a seat, and knowing the ages helps us plan the seating. If you need a child seat, ask when booking; we will tell you whether one can be arranged for your trip, and many families prefer to bring their own travel seat.
- Mobility needs. Mention any relative who uses a wheelchair or walks slowly. The driver will plan to stop as close as possible to the entrance and allow time for boarding.
- Bulky items. Strollers, wheelchairs and cartons take more space than suitcases. Count them separately.
- Breaks. On long drives, tell us whether the children will need a bathroom or food stop, and roughly how often.
- Flight details. For airport arrivals, the driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. We track the flight, and the first 60 minutes after landing are free, which matters when you are collecting bags with tired children.

Family Days Out: Ziyarat in Makkah and Madinah
Ziyarat tours are where a dedicated family car really helps. Instead of hailing taxis between sites with children in tow, the car stays with you. Grandparents can rest in the air-conditioning while others walk to a site, and the children's snacks and bags stay in the boot. In Madinah, a common family itinerary combines the main historical sites with a visit to Wadi Al-Jinn. In Makkah, families often visit the historical sites around the city in one outing. For more on getting around each city, see our pages on taxi in Makkah and taxi in Madinah.
The Long Drive Between the Holy Cities
Makkah to Madinah is about 450 km, around four and a half to five hours. With children, plan for it to take a little longer. A few practical suggestions from our drivers:
- Leave after a meal rather than before one, so the first stop can be later.
- Keep a small bag in the cabin with water, snacks, wipes and a change of clothes for the youngest.
- Agree on prayer stops with the driver at the start of the journey.
- Consider a morning departure so you arrive and check in before night.
Family SUV FAQ
Do children count as passengers?
Yes. Every child, including infants, needs a seat, so include them in your passenger count.
Is the price higher for a bigger family?
No. The fare is per car, not per person. As long as the family fits safely in the vehicle, the price stays the same.
Can you provide a child seat?
Ask us when booking and we will confirm whether it can be arranged for your trip. If it is essential, bringing your own travel seat is the surest option.
Are you available for a 2 a.m. arrival with children?
Yes. We run 24/7, and night arrivals are common. More answers are on our FAQ page.
